Kosciuszko

Mount Kosciuszko, located in the Snowy Mountains, in Kosciuszko National Park, is the highest mountain in Australia (not including its external territories), at 2,228 m above sea level.

It was named by the Polish explorer Count Paul Strzelecki in 1840, in honor of the Polish-Lithuanian national hero General Tadeusz Kosciuszko, because of its perceived resemblance to the Kosciuszko Mound in Krakow.

Like Many of Australia’s peaks, Mount Kosciuszko is easy to climb, and can be climbed by anybody with a moderate level of fitness. It is regarded as by far the easiest of the seven summits.
